Featured: Nicola Formichetti leaves Mugler for Diesel
After two years as the man in charge at Parisian fashion house Mugler, the Italian designer is headed back to home soil to take on the newly created artistic director role at Diesel. Famed for his unique, futuristic take on menswear, the designer might have been a fan of the occasional outlandish touch (see: latex opera gloves for men), but never strayed far from his signature: minimalistic, sleek and above all wearable tailoring with flashes of neon. Having collaborated numerous times with Lady Gaga - she appeared on the catwalk for his A/W ‘11 women’s show - he will now be teaming up on a daily basis with creative director Renzo Rosso, who founded the jeans brand back in 1978. At this stage we can only speculate what they’ve got in store, but here’s hoping he brings some of his trademark twisted sensibilities to the brand. “We’re going to Reboot! Hit refresh,” says the designer “We’re ripping apart everything to re-build something bigger.” Diesel themselves state that the new project will involve a whole host of young creative talent and live in the the “unruly, uncivilised, all-access zone of Tumblr” at dieselreboot.tumblr.com.
